Our highly successful alumni are a testament to the power of the Montessori approach and Free State`s commitment to making the world a better place. At Free State Montessori love of learning really does become a way of life. From our modest beginnings in 1980 with only one classroom of 3-6 year olds, we have grown and evolved into a full service school offering programs from toddler through middle school. As an authentic Montessori school we adhere to the core concepts of the Montessori approach and are recognized for our best practice of the Montessori philosophy. Our Vision Our vision is a world in harmony where all people are able to realize their full potential. We believe that this can ultimately be achieved through the dedicated education of children and their families within the context of true community. Our Mission At FSMS we are committed to the educational process, and the discovery of self within the context of community. We seek to teach a more peaceable way by creating a whole school community. In partnership with parents, we seek to assist children in the process of becoming the next generation of leaders who are well-educated, self-actualized individuals committed and capable of contributing to the betterment of the world. As co-learners in this process, we honor the inestimable worth and universal right of every child to discover their own personal excellence in every facet of their lives, among loving and mutually respectful relationships. Our Philosophic Beliefs and Primary Purpose The primary purpose of the FSMS is educational, based on the principles, techniques, and philosophy advocated by Dr. Maria Montessori, using a constructivist, collaborative, developmental, and experiential approach to the whole child as noted by Jean Piaget and other researchers such as Alfred Adler, John Dewey, Howard Gardner, Daniel Goleman, M. Scott Peck, Brian Swimme and Riane Eisler.
